Busou Shinki – Moon Angel – Episode 10 – Final

Hello! Busou Shinki episode 10 is available on the Japanese PSN for 400 yen, yet only viewable in the game via your room TV option. You’ll have to wait for the Blu-Ray.

Spoiler warning! Be patient to watch next episode, or scroll down cautiously!

(Link – MySite) – Here! Your ride-on gear.

(All images taken with a Lumix GF1 – Pancake lens of Busou Shinki Moon Angel on the PSP.)

The final episode containing the typical boss battle – Arnval vs Athena – Little prototype EX Shinki vs a giant weaponized prototype. Quite unfair for Arnval, but it must be done I guess. Get rid of that rampaging mindless prototype!

Also pardon the quality one last time, it looked much better on window’s image viewer in the folder’s filmstrip option.

Purchase all 10 episodes from the J-PSN and unlock Tempesta with her gear for Battle Masters MK. II PSP Game.

Episode Breakdown:

– Ken hands Tsubasa a Ride-On gear allowing Tsubasa and Arnval to act as one unit. Such a device would allow Tsubasa and Arnval…I mean Kaguya to better communicate with one another and to behave as one unit. Kaguya happily and formally thanks Ken for his assistance and the gift. Cute.

– Athena walks closer, provoking a fight with Arnval. Tsubasa readies the device allowing Kaguya to attack Athena with all she has. She seems a tad bit patient and/or polite allowing Ken and Tsubasa  to talk to one another.

– The Ride-On gear is a handheld device which is activated by pushing the top portion to the side which allows the holographic disc to pop out. When readied, the user then grabs the disc by either throwing it or placing it accordingly in the nearby scenery which turns into a different one – In this case the moon and space. The gear allows the “Masters” to view the inside with

– Arnval gets the first hit on Athena’s arm. Sadly, only a scratch was made. Arnval had to rely on her agility, swiftness, and the power of her over-powered launcher. She manages to damage Athena’s eye portion. Athena’s main weapon appears to be her arm which is both a melee weapon and a long-ranged type. Everything Athena does is determined by her effectiveness with her arms. She pushes, punches, slaps and brushes Arnval to the side using her arms, firing at range when necessary. Her claws are very dangerous. Kaguya resorted to a swift charge with her somewhat over-powered launcher. Partly effective.

– Possibly irritated, Athena fired off a shot towards Tsubasa. Ken non-hesitentally pushes Tsubasa out of the way, injuring himself in the process. Ken gives the thumbs up for being fine, yet stays injured on the ground. Must of been a powerful hit.

– Athena missile spams Arnval similar to the missile massacre within the Macross universe. What is worth doing is worth over-doing with missiles. Arnval, using her agility and speed, dodges every single missile allowing each to contact the ground. This allowed Arnval to charge up her slightly over-powered launcher slightly bit longer than before, blasting Athena’s face and melting the lower portion of the face. Athena’s face is very badly damaged thanks to such an attack. Ugly! Kaguya’s launcher (I probably should be saying cannon) is one nasty weapon when on the receiving end. That thing can easily roast your Shinkis in Battle Rondo and Battle Masters when fully charged up. Somewhat surprising, Athena has lasers mounted within her eyes. What a prototype and weapon….

– Kaguya resorts to knocking Straf out of Athena’s chest by knocking her flying into the chest. The gear bounces off and Straf flies out, supposedly hitting the ground quite hard. Newton’s law – For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction? Unsure how Straf was knocked out, probably from Athena being pushed back and then the movement forward to regain posture. Guess I’ll go with that.

– Arnval’s final attack has her glowing gold in a divine light, as if a holy light from the heavens. She is a Type Angel so I’m assuming it has to do with something with her being an Angel. If not, she managed to command her body to glow gold by slightly altering the Tempesta program to behave differently. Those are my two guesses. Regardless, Arnval scores a hit in the center of the chest K’O’ing Athena from her semi-controlled rampage. CSC cores within the center might of been damaged beyond repair causing Athena to shut down, deactivate, or simply to end up unusable. For Athena to withstand both blasts from Kaguya while injuring Ken she truly must of been strong.

– Straf’s program reboots allowing Straf to greet Arnval, Ken, and Tsubasa. Amusingly, someone at Konami might of been a tad bit mischievous because Straf is either directly or indirectly eying Arnval’s breasts and the point of view we get is quite…..comical I could say. Fan-service for those that like robotic females in sexual poses…I’m not into that, I’m into fox spirit in such poses.

– The research lab is now badly damaged from Athena’s infantile rampage and the battle between her and Arnval. From the damage shown Athena must of damaged a gas tank, a generator, or simply ignited flammable materials. The lab will undoubtedly face multiple fines, repair costs, news backlash, and a possible court appearance?  If not the last two than the first two at least. The firetrucks and fire-crew will have a nice night dealing with such fires.

– The trio kids that once ignored him now show some sign of respect for Tsubasa. They happily wait for Tsubasa to get to them. Looking for discounts now after denying him to see the shop? Silly kids wwwww.

– Tsubasa gained a job at Ken’s Hobby Store. Probably predictable, but very amusing with Arnval playing with ribbons. Straf on the other hand is more of a secretive and a tsundere when assisting an injured Ken, an assisting Tsubasa, and an angelic Kaguya. Straf’s gear allows her to properly cut ribbons with the assumingly very sharp blade on her gear. She quietly and cutely tsunderes at her ribbon cutting act from the praise of Tsubasa and Kaguya. I bet you want to cuddle Straf now.

– The cat that assisted Arnval now stalks the Ken store grounds. Want free food?

Final Thoughts:

Quite pleased with the quality of shorts. Been wanting a Busou Shinki Anime once I got into Battle Rondo and saw Angelic Layer. Didn’t want a Busou Shinki anime over-done, nor poorly made, just something short and awesome. A movie or an OVA at least. I feel that Konami did deliver on what me and other fellow Busou Shinki fans were desiring and wishing for, but in a milking manner. Was hoping the Anime would go for 16 episodes, not 10. Disappointed it was 6 episodes short of the wave updates.

To me this Anime feels like an OVA, a very short movie, or a single episode cut into many pieces to get funds. Even so, I happily and painfully purchased the Anime from the Japanese PSN, losing $10 bi-weekly on silly pre-paid cards which could of been used to purchase other DLC’s for the Battlemasters MK. II PSP game.

As a foreigner I feel ripped off, but thinking in a Japanese sense it might seem logical. They pay the correct fees while I have to pay for both the conversion and fixed price. Not that bad I guess considering the difference in location.I have this weird “Love-hate” emotion with Konami when it comes with Busou Shinki’s because their products are actually of high quality (more so than Figmas), yet Konami has this very awkward way of marketing them. The figures figure line is insanely detailed, has a video game, yet acquiring anything Busou Shinki becomes awkward and for the “hard-core” fans with the way you have to purchase them.

Seeing as how this Anime was based on and borrowing from the Battlemasters MK.II game it would take characters from it and place them within the Anime. The sound-effects, battle music, and the battle results were taken from said game – Episode 2 example. Sadly, the Anime only had one “official” battle.

Moon Angel had all kinds of moments – from serious, comical, slice-of-life, combat, boss battle, cliched, and “fixed” scenarios. If anything, this anime is a nice little stress-reliever during work hours or similar. There were amusing moments when Arnval tried to mimic a butterfly, angry ones when mindless gamers tried to snatch her, sad ones when she was damaged (if you could feel sad), and simple ones where you wanted her to smack the mindless prototype by the head.
As for the quality of the Anime, nice quality and well made. The animation was nicely done, if I do say so myself. Sure, you could tell the difference between “traditional’ and “cgi” art, but they were still pleasing to the eyes. The moments when Kaguya turned into Tempesta were nicely drawn/rendered and were actually mostly high in quality. Every little detail was placed into most scenes while others were slightly lower in quality, not many.

The one thing I have to mention, whether I like it or not, are the flaws of the Anime itself. Not Konami side, but from the Anime itself. The running length of each episode is a bit short, which didn’t allow for any real arcade or tournament battles, and the Anime feels a tiny bit rushed. Thing is, I’m comparing Moon Angel to Angelic Layer which forces me to think Moon Angel is flawed. Guess I’ve been spoiled by Angelic Layer.

The music? It hides itself, but it is there. When it is there it sounds nice, yet a tad on the “generic” side. The music it does have is beautiful for Battle Rondo, Battle Masters, Battle Masters MK. II, and the character music CDS. If an OST will be released is unknown. I hope they do release the OST to see what kind of emotions and vibes they were hiding.

To quickly wrap up I’ll quickly mention that this Anime feels complete and is begging to have a full 12-24 Anime series or at least a proper movie showing off all or most of the Shinki gals. Might be wishful thinking, but that is what Moon Angel is telling me.

In short: Great short Anime that is worth the watch, yet very short while missing the fun arcade and tournament battles. Great that could unlock Tempesta by getting all 10 episodes from the J-PSN.

Score:

If I was to rate the Anime I would give it a….

5/10 – North American score.
8/10- Japanese score.

-1 Split into parts & short; -1 Lacks arcade or tournament battles; -1 cost; -1 Accessibility; -1 No Subs = NA Score
– 1 Split into parts & short; -1 Lacks arcade or tournament battles = JP score

Ya, my scoring system might be strange but that is what I’m going with. Ouch on that NA score.

For those that haven’t watched and are wondering what Angelic Layer is:

Thanks for reading my Moon Angel reviews from episode 1 till 10, this one. I hope they were to your liking, and that the image quality was tolerable for you. For those that haven’t seen the J-PSN version of this yet, I recommend you do so if you would like Tempesta for your PSP game. If not, then wait for the Blu-ray, DVD, or at least the subbed version of them. I hope Moon Angel will be as nice to watch as it was for me. I miss those days I spent trying to purchase and download these shows while spamming my Twitter with updates about it. Fun times.

Now I’ll head back to Battle Masters MK II hoping that Konami extends the Wave updates to add Kohiru, Benio and other Shinkis not within to the full Battle Rondo roster.

Peace!

Alright, I’m going backwards here so bare with me. Overall I’m quite pleased. Yes, I would have loved more episodes, yes I WANT more episodes, or a full length anime/movie in the future. I was hoping for more of the characters to star in it with voices and not just being boxes in the background. But, when all is said and done, I love it anyways. I can see the effort that was put into this and it turned out nice, clean and while I want to say I’m not satisfied, I’m ecstatic that we got anything at all. I’m glad Strarf made it out in one piece because I’ve always liked her. I think what I’m truly annoyed by is the way it was presented. It should have been more easily accessible but I guess Konami always has tried to keep Busou Shinki “Japan exclusive”. Nice screengrabs 🙂

My thoughts exactly when I first saw the Busou Shinki line. It’s Angelic Layers! XD (Is still a big fan.)

I was hoping the Moon Angel Anime would be more accessible, though I guess Konami would rather milk it for all its worth. I’ve got tons of Shinki masters in my country lamenting how they might never get to see it without losing an arm and a leg.

Well, it is somewhat now thanks to us fans and those that subbed it. I tumblered and tweeted what I was shared with. Try and find my tumblr and you’ll find it with easy. Better yet, I’ll share it and may have to remove the link sooner or later.

(Still recommended to those lurking to purchase something from the Busou Shinki line to support the line. Its struggling and it is good.)
