Illuminated Boats – Dow’s Lake

Rideau Canal Festival – Ottawa decided to host a mini Flotilla parade with lights at the Dow’s Lake Marina. They did so with Remote Control scaled vessels and with private boats decorated with lighting. The event also held a delayed 10 minute long fireworks.

This article is for the Festival that was hosted during Saturday, July 31st, 2010.

I’ve seen the flotilla go by before on the Rideau Canal with the ducks pouring into it, and etc. This was way before I had any interest in photography/Anime or a site so thought I’d add it onto my blog. I never really did check out anything during sunset or during the night either…except for the Christmas 2009 – Article here.

I wanted to catch the Remote Control vehicles event, the actual boat illuminations, and the fireworks. I think it got squeezed into this article pretty nicely. Hope you’ll enjoy the tour.

I thought it was an R/C at first as it was tiny. This mini boat basically did whatever it wanted before and during the main event. It didn’t follow the circular pattern that the other boats followed.

Boat Illuminations:

Then a few minutes later all the boats headed out in the waters under a darkening skies to enter a circular formation around the lake.  I think the image quality is pretty good. Enjoy! There is also a video re-capping the whole event.

The fireworks were a bit of a disappointing as it caused half of the people to leave the area. It was delayed from 10 pm till 10:20 pm and ended at 10:28 pm. Don’t know what caused the delay but people wanted to see the fireworks. Some people complained while others patiently waited and waited in the cold night. People aren’t as patient as you probably might think.

They were leaving in large groups thinking everything was over…no message of delays either. The weather also got pretty chilly and luckily I wore long pants and a Ferrari sweater.

And then a video showing you the various R/C’s and boats going by. Also have fireworks added near the end!

Thanks for viewing the article and thanks for watching the video!

Watching those boats go around in circles really did make me want to go back to Tucepi or Cuba. Maybe I should really go back to Cuba and up another article to taunt you people with. Or…maybe somewhere different for the later half of the year. I’m probably saying that far too easily as if its nothing, but hey, I love traveling.
